Tteok-Kkochi

INGREDIENTS  

Skewers

  • Garaetteok (Cylinder shaped Rice Cakes)
  • Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • Mini Sausages/Hot dogs

Gochujang Sauce

  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • 1 tbsp rice syrup or honey
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

INSTRUCTIONS 

Sauce

  1. Sauté the garlic in oil until fragrant over medium heat.
  2. Add all your sauce ingredients and let it reduce until thick (takes about 5-7 minutes over medium heat).

Skewers Prep

  1. If using refrigerated rice cakes, boil the tteok for 2-3 minutes so that they are easier to skewer.
  2. Skewer your ingredients of choice!
  3. Tteok-Kkochi: Rice Cake only skewer
  4. Cheese Sotteok Sotteok: Alternate cheese, tteok and sausage
  5. Cheese Tteok Kochi: Alternate cheese and tteok

Kkochi Making

  1. Fry both sides of the skewers for 1-2 minutes over medium heat in a little bit of oil until the tteok is slightly toasted.
  2. Glaze both sides with the sauce
  3. Fry both sides again for 30-60 seconds or until the sauce is slightly caramelized and sticky
  4. Eat immediately but be careful not to burn your mouth!
