Fried Calamari Perfect Crispy Breaded Squid Rings

Ingredients

  • 350g (12 oz) Squid Tubes
  • 1 Egg
  • 50g (1/4 Cup) Flour
  • 25g (1/4 Cup) Panko Breadcrumbs
  • Pinch Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • Oil for Frying

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan or deep fat fryer to 180°C or 350°F. If you are using a sauce[an take care not to fill it more than a third full.
  2. Sprinkle the squid with salt and a pinch of smoked paprika.
  3. Dip them into the flour, followed by the egg and finally into the bread crumbs.
  4. Batch fry the squid in two batches in either a large saucepan or a wok.
  5. Each batch should take 2 minutes to brown and cook through.
  6. Remove from the pan and drain on kitchen paper before serving.

Air Fryer Instructions

  1. Prepare the calamari in the same was as outlined above and then spray them with cooking spray.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C of 400°F and cook for 9-12 minutes depending on the thickness of the squid rings.
  3. Flip half way through the cooking time and spray with more cooking oil.
